Lares Trek Short Inca Trail Hike is the union of two hiking trails that are the best ones; explore the Andes with their alpacas, Llamas, and Andean peaks. Visit enigmatic ruins hidden among mountains (Ancasmarca). The last days explore the Cusco´ jungle and Machu Picchu. This selection of itineraries are the combination of Lares trek via Patacancha and the Short Inca Trail via Sun Gate (Inti Punko), Welcome to Peru with Kondor Path Tours “Direct Tour Operator Peru”.

Day 1. Cusco – Lares to Wakawasi camp 

From the city of Cusco we leave at 5:30 in the morning towards the sacred valley of the Incas, in CALCA is the first stop for 25 min. To try a local coffee or fresh natural juice “not included” (CALCA is the capital of the sacred valley of the Incas). Continuing with the trip we take an alternate route to get to LARES, by ANCASMARCA is the second stop to visit an Inca citadel, this place has many houses, platforms, and warehouses; all of them we see it from the viewpoint.

When arriving to the thermal baths of LARES we enlist the bath clothes and the backpack of day with everything that is necessary for the hiking. The transportation continues the trip with the cook to CHANCACHACA lunch place. We will have 1 hour of relaxation in the pools. Then we will begin our expedition of the first day, during the hiking you can find alpacas, llamas, and Andean vegetation. The hiking to cover are 9 km / 5 miles. In 4 hours.

Note: During the day, there is sun and suddenly it is very cold or windy, we recommend always take with you a windbreaker and warm clothes. During the nights the weather is cold we recommend to bring thermal clothes and an excellent sleeping bag to rest satisfactorily on our expedition nights.

Day 2. Wakawasi – Ipsay Pass to Patacancha camp

If the first day of hiking we did not have the opportunity to observe alpacas, today we will find alpacas hiking through different mountains. Today’s goal is to conquer the IPSAY Pass, once at the top you can see the two inter-Andean valleys, after the group photo the rest of the hiking is all downhill to the PATACANCHA community. Wakawasi to Patacancha camp takes 14 km / 9 miles of hiking in a time of 6 to 7 hours of trek.

Day 3. Patacancha – Pumamarca to Ollantaytambo

Today trekking is through PATACANCHA and WILLOC valleys. Most of the time trekking is a dirt route trail but in many sectors, we will use the short paths. In the community of PUMAMARCA there are two paths, the first is to continue along the trail to OLLANTAYTAMBO through the platforms of PATAPATA, the second option is climbing hiking until you reach the ruins of PUMAMARCA (after visiting the Inca fortress) We continue by an original Inca road through the platforms of PATAPATA (high part). Tonight we rest in a three star hotel at Ollantaytambo village.

Day 4. Ollantaytambo – Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

To reach the 104 km of the railway line there are several options for train service, we will board one of the train services. By train are 1 hour and 20 minutes until reaching the 104 km “it is impressive to observe the change of vegetation, the whole route is accompanied by the URUBAMBA River”

When crossing the river by the hanging bridge on the other side we find the surveillance post, in this place we present our passports for the official entrance of the short Inca to Machu Picchu. The first place to explore is CHACHABAMBA (religious and agricultural site of the Incas). The Inca trail connects with the Classic Inca trail from WIÑAYWAYNA, the first three hours of hiking is climbing the mountain. The rest of hiking is easy to moderate and is like walking in the Garden of Eden by dense vegetation. When we reach the SUN GATE we have a first sighting of Machu Picchu, the last section of adventure is by the royal Inca road to reach the main gate of Machu Picchu. At 5:10 pm is the last service bus! That means we have to arrive earlier to board one of the buses, go to AGUAS CALIENTES village to rest in our hotel, and recover energy to return the next day to Machu Picchu and explore it completely.

Note: This day you will load your day backpack with the necessary things for a day hike. The rest of your belongings will be left at your hotel in the village of Ollantaytambo in the area of deposits and the last day will be collected your luggage to be transported to the city of Cusco when you are back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco. This day if you require all your adventure luggage you can rent a porter for 1 day!

Day 5. Machu Picchu

The most awaited day by the group of explorers is to explore the seventh wonder of the world “Machu Picchu”
Very early in the morning we’ll board one of the buses to get to Machu Picchu.

We will do the following: first the guided tour with the group for two hours. The places to explore are the two areas that divide Machu Picchu, the temple of the sun, the royal tomb, the priest’s house, the stone quarries, the three windows, the Inca cross, the compass, the solar clock, the sacred stone, the industrial area, the students’ house, the water mirror, and the condor temple. Next plan some clients want to continue exploring Machu Picchu, Yes you can do it, our Kondor guide will recommend the best places, or can go to the top of Machu Picchu and observe the entire Inca citadel a few hours under a tree. At the time indicated by the guide the group has to board the bus service that goes to the town of AGUAS CALIENTES, and during the afternoon is the train return to Ollantaytambo and from Ollantaytambo we head to Cusco by private transportation.
