Day 2: Tour Pisac Ruins, Cusco City Tour (4 Incan Ruins)

Our first day of tour we start at 8:30 AM (can be also at 7:30 AM) to avoid tourist crowds. We follow the northwest side road towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From Cusco valley we enter to Corao valley and finally arrive at the main valley, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This is an unique place on our planet, one of the reasons being that 90 varieties of corn are grown here. At Taray natural lookout we stop 10 minutes to admire the best vistas of the Sacred Valley of the Incas with its majestic Andes mountains. As we travel closer to Pisac we have the first glimpse of the two Pisac: the Colonial Pisac lower down the mountain and close to the Urubamba river, and the other Pisac which is the Inca Pisac where we can appreciate at a distance, the terracing system around the Pisac Mountain. At the checkpoint we enter  the Park, at the place where we explore by walking and following the old Inca trail to the magnificent Inca places such as the Inca balcony of the agriculture terracing system located on the other side of Pisac, and the Inca cemetery of Pisac, a place which contains more than 2,000 Inca mummies.

Returning back to the Colonial Pisac, if the clients want to, they can get some empanadas made of Inca flowers. (Five varieties of quinoa and kiwicha which are 100 % organic.) Please feel welcome to taste these delicacies from the Andes.

We return to Cusco for the city tour, exploring the Inca fountain of the Inca Princess Tambomachay. It is a small walking trek of 10 minutes to reach the fountain.  This walk is at a high altitude (3,765 m/12,352 ft.) but step by step we make our way to the Inca Princess fountain.

A short ride later by our Kondor vehicle we arrive at the balcony of Pucapucara, “the red Inca fortress.” Qenqo is also another ritualistic place the Incas used to mummify their bodies and to practice ceremonies for sacrificing llamas and alpacas as related to their religious beliefs. We also find an amphitheater, a monolith of stone, Inca trails, passages, ritual rocks, and more.

Our final Inca place to explore is called Sacsaywaman, “the giant Sun temple” and holy Inca place. This is an unique location where we can find stones of gigantic shapes on the first Inca terrace, here in Peru Cusco. Every rock is unique, none of them are the same. This is the biggest example in the Inca building evolution as the stones are between 5 to 175 tons.

Around noon we supply an Inca box lunch for our clients.

At 8:00 AM we start our tour. After 40 minutes of transport service we arrive at Chinchero town, a place where we can find the majority of Inca people wearing the traditional ponchos representing their culture, and a unique place where the Andean people show us how to weave Inca clothes.

Our first place to visit is the handicraft center of Inca textiles. Here we learn how to use Pachamama (Mother Earth) in the form of natural dyes (roots, soils, branches, minerals, plants, and herbs) to color Andean textiles. The demonstration is narrated in English by a local lady from Chinchero. After that, you will be invited to walk around the textile center. And if you want to buy some alpaca or llamas ponchos, gloves, scarfs, big or small, you are welcome to do this. By purchasing these products, you are contributing financially to Andean families and also showing their work to the world.

Then we go towards the Inca ruin of Chinchero  about a 15 minutes walk. If the colonial church, which is dedicated to Montserrat virgins,  is open, we enter to enjoy the fresco paintings.  After that we walk through the Chinchero ruins trying to understand what was the main purpose of the place, and why it was built there.

Today we have another Inca balcony called Raqchi; this natural balcony helps us appreciate the other side of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, as it gives us an opportunity to enjoy the view of the Andes Glacier Mountains of the Sawasiray, Pitusiray, Veronica Mountains, etc. A buffet lunch follows at Urubamba, where we might have the opportunity to try the biggest corn in the world .

Our next and last place to visit is Ollantaytambo Park. This place was a temple area, built with many different temples. We have a chance to walk on the Inca trail of Ollantaytambo to reach the Sun Temple. This trail is very steep so is a warm up for the Machu Picchu walking tour. The fountain of the Inca Princess, in the shape of the Inca Cross, is rather unique.

Later in the day we board the train service to Aguas Calientes village (1 hour and 40 minutes of train ride). Aguas Calientes is located in the jungle.
